Community in Humanity: A Call for Allyship
In the world of adaptive sports, education, and beyond, I’ve met individuals with incredible resilience and strength. I continually hear stories that highlight not only the challenges of living with disabilities, but also the vulnerability and raw humanity that comes with them. It’s these moments – these connections – that drive home the importance of allyship, compassion, and understanding.
Recently, I was moved by a young person’s story. Their words reminded me of the times in my own life when I felt unseen and isolated, burdened by past traumas that I carried alone. I remember thinking my struggles were something I had to keep private, a secret I thought would change how others saw me if they ever knew. Even now, that experience impacts me daily. This young person’s openness and their willingness to share their truth struck a chord, urging me to invite others into a space of understanding, allyship, and growth.
This is an invitation to anyone reading – whether you have a disability, support someone with a disability, or simply want to be a better ally – consider the importance of community and connection. At Say How Consulting, we’re here not just as professionals but as allies who understand that life can feel like too much at times, especially when you feel different or misunderstood.
To those with disabilities: there is a community here that values you for who you are, beyond any challenges or labels. You are not alone in feeling that the world often doesn’t fully see you or that sometimes even those who care may not entirely understand. There are people ready to see, listen, and celebrate all that you are. This includes offering you opportunities to connect with others on the pitch, as pen pals, or simply as friends who understand and care. We stand ready to support your journey.
To everyone: consider this a call to action. Ask yourself, “How can I make this world better for those around me?” How can you be someone who truly sees, values, and supports others, especially those who may feel alone in their struggles? Whether you are part of a school, a workplace, a sports team, or any community – commit to creating environments where everyone feels welcome and appreciated. Let’s be the kind of people who make room for everyone at the table.
Whether you are ready to connect or simply exploring these ideas – know that Say How Consulting exists to be a supportive space for you. Together, let’s cultivate allyship, foster compassion, and build a community that values every voice, every story, and every individual.
Thank you for joining me in this journey. You are valued here.
